Beat as one

“It’s on the one hand such a basic chair but on the other hand it’s incredible rigorous. […] It’s almost like a chair pretending to be a person.” Vitto Aconci (Talking about the design of the chair created by Gerrit Rietveld)

Concept

In this project, we explore the relationship between people and technological objects. We observe that the relationship we have with these objects is a one-way, radical relationship. People trust and depend on these objects when they work correctly. However, users tend to feel disappointed when the object stops functioning; the object goes from being useful to useless.

Another point of interest is the expectations that users have for objects incorporating technology, which allows extending the basic functionalities of the object.

Furthermore, the so-called 'Empathetic Objects' are emerging, but is there truly an empathetic relationship between objects and people?
